Casa delle Api (The Bee House) in Bellagio
Some projects begin with a simple idea. Others grow day by day, shaped by hard work, passion, and the desire to give something meaningful back to the local community. The Bee House is one of them.
Over the past few months, the project has reached some exciting milestones. The building has really started to take shape: the natural wood cladding has been completed, the windows and doors are now in place, and the beekeeping areas are beginning to reflect the true identity of the project.
Every decision has been guided by one simple principle: creating a place that lives in harmony with nature. We chose wood and other natural materials to design a space that is not only beautiful, but also respectful of the environment and of the bees at the heart of this project.
The Bee House is coming to life in the hills above Bellagio, one of the most beautiful areas of Lake Como. It has been created to celebrate biodiversity, promote the art of beekeeping, and provide a welcoming space where people can connect with nature and learn more about the environment.
A project inspired by a love for the land
Those who know us through Baita TreeB know how deeply we believe in a different way of experiencing this place—one that is slower, more authentic, and more respectful of nature.
The Bee House is built on the same vision. It is an independent project, guided by the very same values that inspire everything we do: protecting nature, celebrating the local area, and creating meaningful experiences that leave a lasting impression.
One of the Bee House’s most distinctive features is its dedicated hive wall. This specially designed area will be home to new bee colonies, allowing us to monitor their wellbeing while giving visitors a unique opportunity to discover the fascinating world of beekeeping up close.
Today, our apiary is home to nine thriving hives, and we’re now ready to welcome four or five new bee colonies, further expanding the project and helping to enhance the area’s biodiversity.
But our vision goes far beyond producing honey.
Bees play a vital role in maintaining a healthy ecosystem, and protecting their habitat also means preserving the natural landscape that makes Bellagio and Lake Como so unique.
The Bee House is designed to become a place where nature, sustainable tourism, environmental education, and innovation come together. A place where visitors can experience the fascinating world of bees up close, understand their essential role in the ecosystem, and discover Bellagio and Lake Como in a more mindful way, with a deeper connection to nature.
Getting closer to opening day
Over the coming months, we’ll complete the final stages of the project and begin landscaping the outdoor areas, which will feature bee-friendly plants and dedicated spaces where visitors can observe the bees safely.
We’re getting closer and closer to opening day.
Every beam in place, every wooden board installed, and every new hive brings us one step closer to a dream becoming reality: creating a home for bees while inspiring people to appreciate the importance of biodiversity.
For us, The Bee House is another way of caring for the place we call home. It’s the same landscape that welcomes our TreeB guests every day, and one we’re passionate about sharing in its most authentic form—through its forests, biodiversity, local traditions, and deep respect for nature
The journey continues… and soon it will be time to welcome our new bee colonies.
